Our Mission: Increase visibility and involvement of the PMI community through active chapter growth and compelling personal experiences.

The leadership of the PMI San Diego chapter is actively governed by elected officers.  This collection of officers has been identified as the PMI-SD Board of Directors (BoD), which is composed of a President and eight (8) Vice Presidents.  The BoD is responsible for managing chapter business administration, strategic planning and continuous improvement of membership benefits on behalf of our chapter’s community.

President: John G. Stenbeck, PMP, CSM

John G. Stenbeck, PMP,  CSM, is a Sr. Project Management Consultant living in beautiful San Diego.  John  founded PM8020.com to provide the Project Management and Leadership Training  that client’s need to propel their success.  As a trainer John helps technical professionals in the  Aerospace, IT, Financial Services, and BioLife-science industries, master project management and leadership skills. John’s programs return you to work… fine-tuned and ready to take action.

John is also available as a contract project leader to drive the success of troubled key projects, especially on the client-side of ERP system implementations.  He works with you… and for you!  At the core, he delivers practical, measurable solutions to meet your real needs… both now and in the future!!

Vice President of Communications: Todd T. Greenwood MSM, PMP, CSM

Todd Greenwood is a solution-centric entrepreneur with a 24-year background of multi-disciplinary skills including Project Management, Performance Management, Business Development, Information Systems integration and Social Networking Services. He is a seasoned naval veteran who has served much of his time traveling the world, experiencing many new cultures and learning first-hand the power of diversity and the art of motivation. He is the Chief Executive Officer and Principal Management Consultant at Titanium Cobra Solutions; delivering business strategy, optimized resourcing solutions, organizational realignment, performance management training and change management guidance for U.S. Government clients.

Todd is an inspirational speaker who has a passion for the Project Management discipline. He has been a practitioner of Project/Portfolio management for over 11 years, an active member of both PMI and the PMI San Diego since 2006 and was most recently recognized with his second (2) Diamond award for Outstanding Leadership and Volunteerism. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from Governors State University, Illinois in 2003, Masters of Science (MSM) degree in Strategic Business Management from Troy University, Alabama in 2005 and a Project Management Professional (PMP) Credential in 2006.  Todd is also a part-time adjunct instructor of Information Systems/Wireless technology at University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and frequently delivers seminars on Project Management and Business Development topics.


Vice President of Programs: Jon E. Vance, MA, PMP

Jon Vance brings over 15 years of project and program manager experience to the PMI San Diego chapter, where he has been a member since 2006.  He has special expertise in systems engineering, geospatial analysis, data mining, and data visualization.  An avid outdoorsman, Jon reconnects and reinvigorates through annual backpacking treks to the high Sierra, where he spends a week at altitudes above 10,000 feet.

Jon completed a military career in the U.S. Army as an Infantry officer with assignments in Germany and Korea.  After retiring from the service, he obtained an MA in Geography from San Diego State, and worked for 9 years with BAE Systems as a systems chief engineer and project manager developing data fusion products for the National Geospatial – Intelligence Agency.  He expanded the program to 25 people and developed 8 production lines as program manager prior to moving the program to the East coast.  In 2006 Jon joined SPADAC, providing technology insertion in the Southern California area for geospatial data processing and predictive analytics. In 2008 Jon transitioned from the defense industry to the automotive space, joining Mitchell 1 in Poway to spearhead their data mining initiative.  As a project manager, he led the creation of a business intelligence product line and expanded the data collection environment to systematically analyze tens of millions of transactional automotive records on a real-time basis.  He continues to lead this initiative with Mitchell 1 today.

Jon and his wife Amy have lived in San Diego for 21 years and have one adult son.  He obtained his undergraduate degree from St. Bonaventure University and is an active member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish.

Vice President of Finance: Michael C. Potter, MSc, PMP

Michael Potter has been working as a PM and as a project engineer in IT, aerospace, and defense since the 1990s. Much of his project work has involved product development and establishing the compliance of technology products to evolving standards and regulations both in the US and abroad. Agencies include IT manufacturers, the Federal Aviation Administration, and telecommunications providers. He is cleared for Top Secret.

He earned his MSc in Systems Management from the University of Southern California and his BA in economics from the University of Michigan. He has taught college courses in mathematics and statistics. He joined PMI in 2008. In 2009 after taking PMI-SD’s exam prep class, which he also supported as a volunteer, he earned the PMP credential. In U.S. military service he led units in active duty and in the reserves. He specialized in ship logistics and retired as Captain, SC (SW), USNR. He enjoys historical researching and is the author of a book and of several articles.

Michael and his wife Jan raised their family here San Diego. Despite Jan’s advice to their growing children never to be treasurer of an organization because it takes a lot of work and risks trouble if anything goes wrong, he served as treasurer of two nonprofit groups before the PMI-SD board of directors appointed him CFO in 2009.


Vice President of Membership: Nicholas Duran PMP

Nicholas Duran has over 10 years experience working and consulting within a diverse set of industries such as information security, manufacturing engineering, technology, real estate and environmental. Prior to accepting the VP of Membership role he participated in various events within the San Diego and Orange County PMI Chapters, as well as several other organizations throughout the Southwest.

Nicholas has served as a principle figure in four start-up companies, assisted small and medium businesses come back from near tragedy, as well as worked for companies such as Viking Components, Production Analysis & Learning Services LLC, GMAC Residential, SecureMac.com and Hewlett-Packard. He currently works for Sullivan International Group, Inc. a science, engineering, and technology firm as a Project Manager.  Nicholas graduated University of California, Irvine with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology, a Bachelor of Science minor in Information and Computer Science, and acquired both a Project Management Certification and a Project Management Professional (PMP) credential.

Nicholas has an unusual drive to advance and excel that contributes significantly to his project management attraction. His passions for knowledge, creativity, and collaboration led him to study social network analysis and concepts in network theory that apply within project management. He enjoys observations, insights, lessons learned and personal challenges. In Nicholas’s personal and professional opinion, it is amazing how much someone can say without words and it is equally important how much a project can tell you if you know where to look or how to listen.

Nicholas moved to San Diego in summer of 2007 and was recently married in October of 2009. Outside of the professional community he enjoys the outdoors, backpacking, photography, soccer, golf, and coffee. Nicholas is the cofounder of Irvine Underground, Orange County’s premier information security and hacking association. Additionally he owns and operates a small security consulting firm with a dedicated list of loyal clients.
