Now that we have 24 members, it might be good to start off with some introductions. As a guide, here are some questions to answer, but feel free to improvise any way you see fit.

    1) Name
    2) What you do & where you work
    3) Experience with Agile, Scrum et al.
    4) What this group can provide you that is really valuable
    5) Personal fact that others don’t know about you.

My name is Carlton Nettleton and I am an Agile software development expert at Look Forward Consulting. I am Certified Scrum Practitioner and have been working in the Agile space for almost 10 years – I coach and mentor teams on how to improve quality, make better products and improve communication.

I am hoping to nurture and grow the Agile community in San Diego County, learn some new innovations from other Agile practitioners and help people who are struggling with these concepts achieve excellence.

I am working to become bilingual in Spanish.

Hi – my name is Jon Moller, I have worked as a contract IT Project Manager for the last 12 years in various industries. I have used methodologies such as RUP and Agile for managing software development and implementation projects. Recently I have focus more on Agile and have also started looking at Scrum. I plan to take a Certified Scrum Master course in March and hopefully complete the CSM certification shortly thereafter. My interests are to extend Agile / Scrum methodologies beyond IT into the business areas of my customers.

I am looking to learn more about Agile and Scrum from the members of this group and share my project manager experience.

My name is Jim Carroll and I currently work for Sempra / SDGE as an IT Project Leader. I have 20+ years of software engineering experience, mostly using standard “waterfall” type of methodologies. A few years ago, I managed a new product development project with 3 very senior software developers that insisted we use SCRUM. The next year and a half was one of the most enjoyable experiences I can recall, since migrating into software roles.
I am hoping to augment my non-agile daily life with some new ideas, techniques and skills.

Hi, I’m Sunny Shields. I am a PMP and an accomplished project manager specializing in engineering product development. I primarily manage the research and development of electro-mechanical systems (machines) with embedded software. I have managed the development of such devices as quality control inspection systems for automated manufacturing, slot machines for the gaming industry, traffic light controllers, etc.

In my experience, the highest risk component of the projects I manage is the software development portion. I am most likely to influence the level of success of my projects by facilitating improved software development techniques and outcomes.

My contact with the Agile methodology so far has been only theoretical. From what I have read about and discussed it appears to offer significant benefits to software development efficiency. I am in the process of up-skilling my understanding of the Agile philosophy.

Note: It has been my observation that Agile is a software development methodology, not a project management methodology. I am a project manager, not a software development manager (and I prefer to remain that way), so I am as yet uncertain if I wish to pursue CSM certification myself, or if I simply need to learn enough to be able to manage Agile software development teams on my projects. However, I am fascinated by the suggestion of extending the Agile techniques beyond software development!

By The Way: I am currently seeking employment, having recently been granted a “green card” based upon marriage to my husband Todd, whom I met whilst working in the Las Vegas area since 2003.

    Hi,
My name is Barb Millett and I have been doing IT Project Management for the last 2+ years and have 12 years of database development experience. My last organization has “dabbled” into using some portions of the SCRUM methodology, and I have not much experience using this method. I have researched the different methodologies and am very interested in learning more about SCRUM as I can clearly see the benefits.
