Keynote Thursday 8/8/19: Invention + Integration = Innovation: the Secret of FANG’s Success and BBEN’s Failure

Presented by: Jimmy Thai

Abstract: Once upon a time… Blackberry, Blockbuster, Ericson, Nokia (BBEN) dominated our world of technology and entertainment. Meanwhile Facebook, Amazon, Netflix, Google (FANG) were nowhere to be found beside someone’s garage.

Then what happened to BBEN, and where are they now? Contrary, can we function without FANG today? How does Apple continue to add value our world of Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics?

We Project Managers need to be ready for change or be changed. We need to create value for our customers and corporate sponsors. We need to connect with our core members, cultures, and community.

Bring your head, heart, and humor to this interactive keynote! We’ll share 3-C secrets that you can integrate FANG’s formula for success and reduce the risks of BBEN’s failure. Through in-depth research and powerful personal stories, we will inform, entertain, and inspire you to seek innovation in any projects that you manage, and deliver integrated value to change the world.

Jimmy escaped Vietnam 15 times, imprisoned twice, and witnessed police killed his brother. Through determination, he eventually arrived in America as a “Boat People” refugee. With no English, money or education, he started as a janitor at Miramar College.

5 years later, he graduated from UCSD with a BSEE degree. He went on to earn his MSEE and MBA degrees, then attended Executive Leadership training at the world-class Harvard University, and Federal Executive Institute. In 2011, he's cracked the “Bamboo Ceiling” as a Vice President for Technology with SAIC – a Fortune500 company with $11Bil in revenue and 47K employees. His journey illustrates the American Dream is alive.

A frequent speaker on TED Talks, PMI Conferences, Las Vegas, Washington DC, and International stage, Jimmy’s speaking provokes your mind, heart, and humor! His 501.c.3 Build a School Foundation has built 49 schools and bridges in Vietnam in less than 4 years.
