Abstract: A common misconception in software project management is that in order to properly follow the practices outlined in the PMBOK® Guide, we must use a non-Agile or Waterfall approach. At this Flash Breakfast, we’ll attempt to address that and discuss how decisions are made around effective management of Agile vs. Waterfall hybrids. We’ll look at how organizations have been successful, where they’ve failed, and how organizations have used them together effectively. We’ll discuss topics such as:

  • What drove your organization to use Waterfall and/or Agile? Where was it successful and where could improvements been made?
  • What recommendations do you have for people transitioning from Waterfall to Agile? Agile to Waterfall?
  • What kind of training was provided to help transition resources?
  • What were common perceptions before making the transition and what was learned along the way to full execution?
  • What are advantages and disadvantages of both and how do you navigate through them?
  • What are critical success factors of Agile?
  • What are critical success factors of Waterfall at your organization?
  • What are critical success factors of using both methodologies or a hybrid concurrently?
