Creeps in Project Management - Scope Creep, That Is
Group Participation and Discussion led by: Andrew "Drew" Orgel

Abstract:  Come celebrate with us the 5 Year Anniversary of our North County Roundtable Breakfast, with balloons, confetti and morning champagne. And learn how to manage the Project Manager's nemesis: Scope Creep.

Issues covered include:

  • What does the PMBOK say about Scope Creep?
  • Is Scope Creep always a bad thing?
  • Agile and Waterfall perspectives
  • What is a PM to do to manage Scope Creep?
  • Stakeholder Mgt Documenting Scope Creep
  • How to adjust metrics when scope creep happens?
  • How to keep from being fired?

Drew Orgel will start with the review of PMBOK's perspective followed by a discussion of what the participants think about putting those ideas into practice. Then the other subjects will be covered as time permits. As a matter of disclosure, business consulting has been a large part of Drew's career and as such, he finds that scope enables greater value to the project owner and is profitable except on fixed-price contracts. We expect much audience participation!

Andrew (Drew) Orgel has led projects from CRM and ERP roll-outs to marketing campaigns and financial services offerings. Starting his career in luxury retail he learned how to create and maintain cultures of excellence which he used in the B2B space and internet start-ups which is when he became interested in Project Management. He built on his CRM foundations into ERP roll-outs for boutique software developers and VARS. For the last 10 years, Drew has been the Senior Project Manager and Lead Business Analyst for a private real estate investment firm. He relocated from Orange County to Oceanside in early 2018 to refocus his career in the ERP software space.

Andrew Orgel holds a Bachelors degree in Business Economics as well as a Masters in Informations Systems Management, which lead him to attain his PMP in 2005. He has been an active member of several PMI chapters, including VP of Operations for PMI-4C in Ventura County. He was also lead a chapter of Experience Unlimited during a pivotal transition period as Chapter President. He enjoys public speaking when time allows and holds the title of Advanced Toastmaster Silver in Toastmasters Intl. He recently attained his Six Sigma Green Belt and expects to attain PMI-ACP by Fall 2018.
