At UC San Diego Extension, we understand that professionals have a number of reasons for studying, so we have designed course offerings to meet as many of your needs as possible. The courses listed below may be taken individually or as part of Extension’s Professional Certificate in Project Management. Extension’s Project Management program courses provide a practical, hands-on approach to understanding the industry. Traditional in-class, online, and intensive courses are offered throughout the year to meet the needs of our diverse students. If you are interested in completing the full certificate, there are five required courses plus approximately two elective courses. We invite you to join our community of learning professionals.

AGENDA: SELF-PACED from 7/13/2020 - 9/12/2020

This course provides the basic skills, tools, and techniques to properly manage project costs and risks in an environment that continuously improves project management quality. The PMBOK® Guide has provided you with the “what”. Through instruction and realistic, scenario-based assignments, students are introduced to organized and practical approaches to manage project costs and risks, and improve overall project management processes. In this course, you will learn:

  • The fundamental concepts of project cost, risk, and quality management and their interrelationships
  • How to use best practices and multiple techniques to estimate project activities and tasks
  • How to use cost estimates to construct basic project budgets
  • Basic project financial and risk controls
  • The importance of risk management to both project and organizational success
  • Risk management processes, tools, and techniques needed to construct and maintain a comprehensive risk log for cost effective risk management
  • Use basic quality tools, not just to measure the quality of project output, but the quality of the project management process itself




Instructor - Ray Frohnhoefer, MCA, PMP, CCP: Ray W. Frohnhoefer is an executive with strong project management skills, a methodologist, and a creative inventor and entrepreneur. His key leadership qualities have enabled him to save companies millions of dollars by efficiently making complex decisions and getting things done, even under pressure. His mission is to improve the practice of project management. Frohnhoefer is an active PMI member and volunteer with specialties in project, program and portfolio management; strategic planning; methodology and framework development; requirements and product development; PM maturity assessment; and business process improvement.

Drop Deadline: You can drop most courses at any time before the final class meeting (by 11:59 p.m. on the day before the scheduled end date for online courses) or before final grades are posted, whichever comes first.

Refund Deadline: 7/20/2020 - If you drop a course after the refund deadline, even if you enrolled after that date, you will not receive a refund.
